Brighton Commission

Brighton Commission

This piece was painted on a commission basis for a very special woman in Brighton, UK. It was commissioned by her son.

The view is from her hallway window, looking back out over the houses and hills of Brighton. I snapped a photo quickly, secretly, so as not to aroused suspicion.

The process of making this painting was a joy.

What went wrong? I had to part with it once it was finished!

I am never really that attached to my works once they are finished. This one was different. By the time it was done, I didn’t want to give it away. I wanted to hang it on my wall.

After seeing her face when she received it, I was happy to let it go.

The Byron Bay Love Birds were my attempt to make something that people would love. Something likeable. Something relatively inoffensive compared to some of my other, darker pieces. Something that...
